Hiya, I’m Hattie! Welcome To My Flash Fiction Website
It’s Hattie’s Flash Flash Fiction, or Hattie’s Flash Fiction in a Flash.
Enough messing around - let’s get on with it.
A Bit About How This All Started:
Early in 2024, I started listening to the Failing Writer’s Podcast (not a paid promotion), and just decided to have a go. I’m a lifelong reader, and writing felt like the natural next step. I soon realised that a novel overwhelmed me, a short story take a deceptively long amount of time and energy, and poetry is not my forte. And then I discovered Flash Fiction. A quick story in 500 words or less that I can just jump in and write. Perfect for a quick pick-me-up, both for me as the author and you as the reader.
And now I’ve had my Flash Fiction published - a few times in fact! Here at Ink, Sweat & Tears, here at Free Flash Fiction, and here at Suddenly & Without Warning!
I publish new stories semi-regularly, generally based in and around Cambridge, UK, where I live and work (but other places feature too). Please have a read. This is very much a work in progress, so any feedback, including constructive criticism is appreciated!
Thank you :)
All work belongs to me.
Praise for My Flash Fiction So Far:
Blue Monday (FF version):
Oh blimey. I love the way you build up the pressure through sound, and subtly bring in the backstory. The detail of the crowd response is really strong. And that ending is so simple and devastating - Anonymous WHQer 1
You put us right in the moment, and weaved in the story around that moment so well. The ending feels inevitable, but it doesn't lose its emotional punch because of that at all - Anonymous WHQer 2
The Power Within Me (FF version):
I was finding this really fascinating, and then you whacked me in the emotion balls with the horror of what the future holds for our successors, pulled me in with your 'unborn daughter', pushed me under with the futility of the struggle, and sent me soaring back up again with that hugely powerful last line. Good job! - Anonymous WHQer 1
Stunning! What an impactful ending. - Anonymous WHQer 2
